Love Thy Neighbor was a short-term missions project organized in conjunction with the 30th General Assembly & Conventions which was held in Indianapolis (Indiana, USA) and within 16 other countries with over 1,500 participants.

While the main “Love Thy Neighbor” project was held in Indianapolis, a total of 45 teams from four different regions of the Church of the Nazarene joined the global event from June 9-14.

In the Mesoamerica Region, 8 countries served in 22 communities, 289 people participated and 1,342 people were ministered to.

Prior to the event, General Superintendent Dr. Carla Sunberg expressed, “As Nazarenes, we know that living a holy life is a continuous journey and it is also something we do together as a community. Love Thy Neighbor is a mission trip with our large and wonderful Nazarene family.”

Heeding this call, the Mesoamerica Missions Mobilization ministry worked alongside the churches and encouraged their congregations to join Love Thy Neighbor. Dozens of people responded to the call and blessed the lives of children, adolescents, youth, adults, and seniors.

The strategies and activities carried out were varied, some of which are as follows:

  • Sports and recreation
  • Hygiene talks
  • Visits to the sick and homeless
  • Delivery of medicines, clothes, and food
  • Cleaning of streets, temples, sites, and seniors’ homes
  • Repairing and painting houses and buildings
  • Tree planting
  • Support for community centers, nursing homes, children’s homes, a maternity home for pregnant women, and children’s dining halls

“It was an amazing privilege for the participants to share God’s love through acts of service and to witness how much God can do when His church in obedience is willing to share His blessings,” remarked Sugey Barron from the Mesoamerica Missions Mobilization team. She also said that many recognized their responsibility as a church and joined together to bring hope and transformation to the communities. “The hope is that this experience will make a significant difference in the lives of those who were ministered to.” she concluded.

Coming soon on the Transforma el Mundo blog we will be sharing testimonies from participants from that week of service.
