Christ builds His Church, and His servants respond in obedience, love, and service.

Western District of El Salvador formally recognizes the “Fraternidad Evangélica” congregation and welcomes 15 new members, marking a key step forward for the Nazarene mission in La Libertad, El Salvador.

The Celebration

On June 29, 2025, in Nuevo Cuscatlán (La Libertad, El Salvador), the organization service for the Church of the Nazarene in Nuevo Cuscatlán, “Fraternidad Evangélica,” was held. With the presence of District Superintendent Rev. Nelson Valencia, district pastors, and members of the District Advisory Board, the congregation was officially organized and 15 believers were received into membership. Approximately 30 people attended.

Memory and Gratitude

The work began as a preaching point in June 2024, with the support of the Western District. One year later, on June 29, 2025, the organization service took place, which included: Scripture reading (Acts 2:40–47) led by Pastor Humberto Alférez, worship with Pastor Mario Romero, a welcome by Pastor Arístides Figueroa, the sermon by District Superintendent Rev. Nelson Valencia, and the official ceremony introducing the pastoral team and local church board, as well as the reception of 15 members. Members of the District Advisory Board were also present.

A strong pastoral team undergirds the church’s growth: Lead Pastor Humberto Alférez (over 30 years in the faith; former active member in Santa Tecla; B.A. in Theological Education, English teacher). He is married to Mirna de Alférez; they have two married children. The team also includes Administrative Pastor Arístides Figueroa, Evangelism and Church Planting Pastor Mario Romero, and Youth Pastor and NYI President Andy Quinteño.

Local church board members:

  • SDMI President: Hilda Lemus
  • Treasurer: Hilda Lemus
  • NMI President: Mirna de Alférez
  • Secretary: Mirna de Alférez

(Note: SDMI = Sunday School & Discipleship Ministries International; NMI = Nazarene Missions International; NYI = Nazarene Youth International.)

Fruit and Community Service

The church is already serving beyond its walls. They offer English classes on Wednesdays and Fridays; on Saturdays they host sports activities (such as basketball) and run Nazagol on the nearby fields, with an average of 100 participants, integrating evangelism and spiritual care.

Looking Ahead

The immediate goal is to launch three discipleship groups in different parts of the city, multiplying pastoral care and strengthening a culture of evangelism, formation, and service.

Let us pray that this organization will be the beginning of many testimonies of salvation and service. The Church keeps moving because Christ keeps working.
