When God calls, obedience becomes mission.

Mission Week brought together EXPLORE and Maximum Mission in Petén, Guatemala, connecting missionary formation with practical service in the community.

From March 30 to April 4, the Guatemala North District experienced a Mission Week in Petén that integrated EXPLORE and Maximum Mission. The first part gathered 19 participants from five districts in the northern area. Here you can add the hyperlink to the previously published EXPLORE story for those who would like to learn more about that experience.

As part of that same week, 14 of those 19 young people continued serving in Maximum Mission, held from April 2 to 4 in Caserío La Unión, between San Benito and Santa Elena. There, they joined a larger team of more than 35 participants with the purpose of sharing the love of Christ in practical and personal ways.

The community visited is part of the work of the Church of the Nazarene in Santa Elena, which is developing it as a new preaching point. According to the information shared, the church holds weekly meetings there and works with children at least twice a week, providing continued ministry in the area.

During those days, the team visited approximately 40 homes. Activities were also held for different groups in the community: 35 children participated in the activities prepared for them, 12 women took part in workshops, 20 young people joined Nazagol, and around 20 people attended the showing of the Jesus film.

Mission Week also brought spiritual fruit. Approximately 6 children, 1 woman, and 2 more people after the film presentation decided to follow Jesus and receive Him as Lord and Savior.

The participants’ testimonies reflected what they experienced during those days. Azucena Mayen shared: “I arrived at Maximum Mission thinking I was going to help others, but I was the one who changed the most… Today I want to keep learning more of God’s Word, serve more in my church, and live an experience this unique again.”

Zoé Urizar expressed: “It was an unforgettable experience, where I felt God’s embrace in my life… God keeps reminding me that He goes before me, so I will continue striving and preparing myself to fulfill His mission.”

This Mission Week reminded everyone of a simple yet powerful truth: when the church creates spaces to hear God’s voice and respond in obedience, lives can be transformed.

The mission continues to move forward when we respond to God’s call.
