As our amazing ministry team is picking up the first leaders and participants, it is dawning on us: Discover Missions is here!

This iteration of Discover Missions is the first of its kind in the Church of the Nazarene, and sites and dates are being determined for future years. Designed for 18-to-24-year-olds who are interested in and exploring a call to cross-cultural ministry, the global event begins May 13 and will finish May 22, 2023. Preachers and workshop presenters have been invited from every world region to speak on topics such as The Call, Ethnocentrism, Urban Mission, and Mental Health in Missions. However, much of the impact of the ten days will be experienced as students visit church and community leaders in Santo Domingo, taking time to listen, learn, and serve in various neighborhoods of the city.

Right now, more than 70 participants from 20 different countries are traveling to the Dominican Nazarene Seminary to take part. Global Youth Mobilization Coordinator, Rachel Best, developed a prayer guide to be used before, during, and after the event. You can download the full document here , but for now, I will highlight some of my favorite prayer requests that are included there:

  • Pray that participants would have the rest, health, and the energy they need to make the most out of their time at Discover Missions.
  • Pray for those who will feel that, because of their cultural context or finances, there is no place for them in missions. May they be reminded that God equips, qualifies, and provides for the called.
  • Pray that the Holy Spirit would fill the seminary campus. Pray that the campus would become a sacred place, a holy space of invitation to say yes to Christ.
  • Pray that God would unify this community of young adults and that God would be in the new friendships being formed beyond language barriers.

Would you intercede for this event and these participants in the coming days? Download the Prayer Guide to assist and prompt you daily.

Missionaries will be called in this gathering. Connections will be made that will remain through decades of ministry. World-changers will be formed. Let’s eagerly expect great things from God during Discover Missions – and beyond!
