The worship center and the parsonage of the Church of the Nazarene “Israel” in the Xalitzul community, Tucuru, Guatemala, were affected by storms Eta and Iota, which forced the pastor Rodrigo Tox and his family to take refuge in another place.

The congregation came together and planned the rebuilding of the worship center and the small parsonage and with the support of District Superintendent Francisco Cho, the church began the reconstruction work.

“They started out with great faith and passion, working day and night,” said Superintendent Cho. He also said that women, men, children and young people all worked in the reconstruction, including some neighbors. “The surprising thing is that in just one month they gathered everything, even more than they needed to rebuild, managing to reconstruct the worship center in just 32 days.”

On February 2, the congregation gathered, marched together to the property and entered the new worship center singing praises to God.

Before dedicating the worship center, Pastor Rodrigo said: “God spoke to us; he actually spoke to us through the storm and we understood that we should work.”

The church received ten new members in full communion on the same day and fourteen people were baptized.

“It is amazing how the pastor and the church did not see the storm as a time to be afraid, but as a time of victory. God spoke and they rebuilt the worship center in 32 days! ” Cho said.
