On Sept. 4, the Nazarene Guatemala Verapaz North District held its second mass baptism where 1516 people from 116 people were baptized. Later, on Sept 11, they were all received as members in their local congregations.

More than 18,000 Nazarenes participated from their local churches in different parts of the district to witness the baptism of the new believers.

Each of the 12 zones in which the churches are distributed held a celebration with a time of worship and consecration to the Lord. The sermon was about the experience of entire sanctification. “Hundreds of Nazarenes testified they had the transformative experience of the Holy Spirit,” said Francisco Cho, the Verapaz North District superintendent.

The preparations for this grand simultaneous celebration began in June 2021, led by the district evangelism ministry, who called on the churches to begin 2022 under the theme, “The Year of the Lord’s Favor.” The members of the district team and the presidents of the 12 zones also worked together on the coordination and logistics.

“This movement that lives in the district is nothing less than the fulfillment of the promise of the Lord Jesus who says, ‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth,’” Cho said. “We encourage our churches to continue seeking the filling of the Holy Spirit and preparing to see even more of the glory of God.”
