A total of 613 young people participated in Tendencia, an initiative held in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to challenge new generations to live out an active faith and respond to God’s call. During the gatherings, 48 young people responded to the call to serve, expressing their willingness to be used by God wherever He leads them.

Tendencia was jointly organized by Rev. Carlos Cordero, North Area Strategy Coordinator, and Nazarene Youth International (NYI) in the North Area of Mesoamerica. The gatherings took place on September 15, 19, and 20, 2026, with the participation of Missionary Mobilization, La Causa, and Communications.

The initiative sought to encourage new generations to step outside their comfort zones and live out a faith committed to making Christlike disciples and sharing His love in every community.

The name Tendencia (Trend) invited participants to reflect on attitudes that can hinder spiritual growth, such as believing that attending church is enough or that young people do not need discipleship simply because they belong to a congregation.

Three Countries, One Call

The first gathering took place on September 15 at ASTN in Guatemala, with 70 participants. The day included devotionals, activities, and workshops focused on leadership, service, and mission.

Rev. Alex Milián, North Area NYI Coordinator, led a workshop titled From the Church to Society, encouraging young people to identify needs in their communities and explore ways to respond.

Rev. Edgar Corzo, Mesoamerica Regional NYI Coordinator, presented From Programs to Ministries, while Missionary Mobilization and La Causa shared From Local to Global, highlighting how God prepares people to serve.

During the gathering, North Area Communications presented the Northern Verapaz District with a podcast production kit, thanks to the collaboration of TMM. The district will be able to use the equipment for three months before it is passed on to another district, encouraging new ways to share the gospel.

On September 19, Tendencia continued in El Salvador as part of the Independence Day youth conference, organized by the country’s three NYI district presidents. The event brought together 476 young people.

The series concluded on September 20 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, with 67 participants. Although the program was shorter, it maintained the same focus on spiritual formation and the call to serve.

Young People Ready to Respond to God

One of the central moments was a message shared by Pastor Gustavo Santana, who participated in all three countries and spoke on Mark 10:46–52, the story of Bartimaeus.

Through this passage, he challenged young people to leave behind anything preventing them from drawing closer to Jesus and following Him. During times of prayer, many came to the altar, expressing their desire to seek God’s direction and surrender their lives to Him.

As a result, 48 young people responded to the call to serve, willing to go wherever God leads them.

“Being part of Tendencia reminds me of two things. First, God is still moving among young people and through them. Second, the Church of the Nazarene continues to be a church of the altar,” Santana said.

He also emphasized that these moments reflect the impact of local churches and pastors in nurturing the spiritual growth of new generations.

Strengthening Youth Leadership

Throughout the events, Rev. Carlos Cordero, Rev. Alex Milián, and Rev. Edgar Corzo also met with NYI councils and district presidents to listen to their needs, encourage them, and strengthen unity and support across the North Area.

Tendencia left new generations with a challenge: to go beyond simply attending church and respond to Jesus’ call with lives willing to serve.
