Hope multiplies when the Church opens its doors and its hands.<\/em><\/p>\n

In Poza Rica and across northern Veracruz, the Nazarene family has come together to serve: opening shelters, sharing hot meals, offering medical care, and cleaning homes struck by the floodwaters. What could have been only an emergency has become a living testimony of unity, hope, and practical love.<\/p>\n

A response born from the heart<\/h4>\n

Beginning October 10, 2025<\/strong>, the Second Church of the Nazarene in Poza Rica (Veracruz)<\/strong> began preparing spaces to receive its community. On October 11<\/strong>, with support from Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM)<\/strong>, the shelter and community kitchen<\/strong> were formally activated and remain in service<\/strong>.
\nFour Nazarene churches in Poza Rica<\/strong> are taking turns in rotation to sustain the work\u2014reminding us that the mission multiplies when it\u2019s shared<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Hands that feed, clean, and heal<\/h4>\n

Each day an average of 100 people<\/strong> are served (around 40<\/strong> at breakfast), and 2,000 meals<\/strong> have already been provided via breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Volunteer teams have assisted 30 homes<\/strong>, along with cistern cleaning<\/strong> and debris removal<\/strong>.
\nOn the medical front, 100 consultations<\/strong> have been provided (70 in \u00c1lamo<\/strong> and 30 in Poza Rica<\/strong>), addressing foot infections<\/strong>, lacerations<\/strong>, and sprains<\/strong>, as well as follow-up for people with diabetes and hypertension<\/strong> who require medication. This rotation among the four churches<\/strong> ensures hot meals each day, steady cleaning teams, and an open shelter<\/strong> for those who need it most.<\/p>\n

Frontline care and coordination<\/h4>\n

Pastor Rebeca Flores<\/strong> and a team from the Second Church of the Nazarene in Poza Rica<\/strong> sustain the shelter and community kitchen<\/strong>, caring for every detail including lodging, food, daily cleaning, and a health safety perimeter<\/strong> that protects those who come seeking refuge.
\nIn the neighborhoods, Pastor and missionary Carlos Castro<\/strong> coordinates home cleaning and disinfection<\/strong> with support from the district and groups of youth and volunteer leaders<\/strong> who don\u2019t give up when fatigue sets in.<\/p>\n

Since October 16<\/strong>, NCM medical brigades<\/strong>\u2014led by Dentist Shalma Jazzel Hern\u00e1ndez<\/strong> (South) and Dr. Magdalena Nu\u00f1o<\/strong> (North)\u2014evaluate and care for<\/strong> at-risk families, along with six physicians<\/strong> and a nursing support team<\/strong> who organize shifts and follow-up.<\/p>\n

An additional 15 volunteers<\/strong> also joined the removal, cleaning, and disinfection<\/strong> efforts, which\u2014together with the local brigade\u2014form three assistance teams<\/strong> working in parallel across communities and municipalities in northern Veracruz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Experience that sustains hope<\/h4>\n

Drawing on experience from responding to three hurricanes in Guerrero<\/strong>, Pastor Carlos de Le\u00f3n Rufino<\/strong> traveled with volunteers from the Central District<\/strong> and youth from his local church to strengthen the cleaning and disinfection fronts.
\nOn the ground, NCM area coordinators Edy Aroldo Montejo<\/strong> (South) and Cutberto Tenorio<\/strong> (North) accompany and strengthen<\/strong> the response strategy\u2014reminding us that unity makes the impossible possible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Voices that encourage faith<\/h4>\n

We will continue rotating<\/strong> as communities and municipalities in northern Veracruz<\/strong> recover.
