The year 2025 began with the intensive Genesis training in the Dominican Republic, preparing three young people passionate about missions: Emanuel Guerrero from Honduras, Icsa Taisigue from Nicaragua, and Teresa De Cuesta from Mexico, who had previously participated in Genesis. This training process had the valuable logistical support of Marco and Eunice Portillo from Northeast Mexico. Eunice, who previously served as a missionary with Genesis, now accompanies her husband and their three-year-old daughter as \u201cGenesis House Parents,\u201d providing guidance and ensuring the smooth operation of the training.<\/p>\n

During their preparation, fundamental topics were covered, such as church planting, teamwork, regional vision, leadership, security, culture, urban mission, and the essential principles of the Church of the Nazarene. In addition to theoretical sessions, they had practical experiences that strengthened their ministerial formation.<\/p>\n

One of the most significant moments was the medical outreach held on February 8<\/strong> in collaboration with the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries team in the Dominican Republic. Utilizing their professional skills\u2014Emanuel as a dentist, Icsa as a general physician, and Teresa as a nurse\u2014they served the community of Bonao, providing medical care and reflecting the love of Christ. Although their mission will not focus on medicine, this experience allowed them to work as a team and serve in an intercultural context.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been challenged, but I have also been reminded that God is the Lord of the work,\u201d<\/strong> said Teresa De Cuesta.<\/p>\n

They also dedicated a day to serving the community of Los Alcarrizos in Santo Domingo. Despite cultural differences, they managed to connect with residents, share the message of Christ, and witness His love.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery challenge, serving in the culture, listening to the difficulties, along with the vast range of opportunities and strategies received, motivates me\u2026 A phrase emphasized by Sugey in the talk on The City remained in my heart: \u2018We are not starting from scratch; we are simply joining what God is already doing in the city\u2019,\u201d<\/strong> said Emanuel Guerrero.<\/p>\n

Another highlight of their training was the opportunity to visit various churches in Santo Domingo, where they shared their testimonies and the work that God has done in their lives.<\/p>\n

A Call to Prayer and Support<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now more than ever, these young people need the church\u2019s support in prayer. The regional coordinator of Genesis calls on the church to pray for the new churches that will be planted in El Salvador, for strong interpersonal relationships, for their adaptation, for their families at a distance, and for God\u2019s provision in every step.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She also thanks those who sent an offering for Genesis last month. This training was made possible thanks to the generosity of many congregations in the region.
