He knew he had drifted from the Lord. He was a doctor who thought he had everything, including prestige and money. But one day, his sense of power was taken from him.

Kidnapped at gunpoint with his son, Luis was beaten, humiliated, and unsure how much longer he would survive. After being rescued by police, he and his family fled Guatemala to North Dakota, USA.

The San Jose family went from having everything to having nothing overnight. They began attending a Nazarene church in their new home.

“They took care of us,” San Jose said. “They embraced us like their own family. They didn’t ask questions. They just loved us.”

The church rallied around the San Jose family, devoting their time, love, and resources to help the San Joses move forward with their life. Luis is now a pastor to the Hispanic community at the same church that welcomed the family 15 years ago.

“My world was shattered,” San Jose said. “But Jesus healed it through his people.”

When you give to World Evangelism, you empower God’s transformational work to take place in people’s lives, just like it did in the life of Luis San Jose and his family.

By giving to World Evangelism, you are actively advancing the Church of the Nazarene’s ministries around the world.
