{"id":49285,"date":"2018-05-25T16:11:16","date_gmt":"2018-05-25T22:11:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mesonaz.org\/?p=49285"},"modified":"2018-05-25T16:14:42","modified_gmt":"2018-05-25T22:14:42","slug":"continued-prayer-requested-for-cuba-families-churches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mesonaz.org\/en\/continued-prayer-requested-for-cuba-families-churches\/","title":{"rendered":"Continued Prayer Requested for Cuba Families, Churches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leonel\u00a0L\u00f3pez, president for the Church of the Nazarene in Cuba and\u00a0superintendent of the Cuba West District, shared an update this week following the 18 May plane crash that claimed the lives of more than 100 people, including 10 Nazarene pastor\u00a0couples.<\/p>\n<p>L\u00f3pez was at the airport during the crash, which he initially thought involved a foreign aircraft. It wasn\u2019t until later that he learned the plane in question was the\u00a0aircraft carrying 10 pastor\u00a0couples on their way home from a national conference.<\/p>\n<p>Since the crash, L\u00f3pez has been staying at the same hotel as the couples&#8217; families. He said it&#8217;s been a somber time and relatives are understandably hurting. When the coroner\u2019s office announces they have identified a victim, &#8220;the relatives fall to the ground losing all consciousness from the pain. The rest of the people burst in tears because that means their relatives have not been identified yet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>L\u00f3pez shared that the relatives of the couples are &#8220;extremely grateful&#8221; for the help the global Church of the Nazarene has provided. He spends all day going from room to room at the hotel bringing words of encouragement to the relatives of the deceased.\u00a0Leaders from other denominations are coming to support the local ministers\u2019 families through prayer.<\/p>\n<p>The Church of the Nazarene in Cuba has been able to assist with transportation for relatives to get to Havana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur churches have been able to provide great support alongside other Cuban denominations as well as churches outside of Cuba,\u201d L\u00f3pez told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cubatv.icrt.cu\/reverendo-leonel-jesus-lopez-ortiz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CubaTV<\/a>. \u201cThe authorities at all levels, but especially from both Holg\u00fain and Havana, have been very supportive all along and have stood with us and the relatives [of the victims].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tragedy comes at a time of growth for the Church of the Nazarene in Cuba.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of 2017, Cuba had two Nazarene districts (West, East) and more than 100 churches.<\/p>\n<p>A process is underway to find leaders for the congregations now without a pastor.
